The opportunity
WHY THIS
MATTERS NOW
$1T
Space economy by 2040
The global space economy is projected to exceed $1 trillion within 15 years. It needs millions of workers, founders, and creatives who don't exist yet. Sci-fi — and the stories that make us feel space is possible — is how we recruit them.
301M
Streaming subscribers hungry for space
Space content consistently outperforms on major platforms. The audience for authentic, character-driven space stories has never been larger — or more ready for something that feels genuinely new.
Zero
Dedicated space sci-fi competitions
No serious film competition exists specifically for space science fiction. SCA Studios is building that platform from scratch — this inaugural edition will define what comes after it. You are here at the beginning.
SCA
Access nobody else has
We partner with NASA collaborators, ESA, Academia, and the global space career community. Our filmmakers don't just imagine space — they know the people building it. That access creates stories no other studio can source.

WHAT WE
ACCEPT

Primarily a sci-fi film competition — but space documentaries and animation are welcome. Live-action narrative films receive first consideration. Strong storytelling is the only real criterion.

Primary
01
First Contact
Humanity's encounter with the unknown — alien intelligence, anomalous signals, or the terrifying silence of a universe that should be full of life.
Primary
02
The Colony
Life off-Earth. Mars settlements, orbital stations, generation ships. The politics, love stories, and survival of humans who never knew a blue sky.
Primary
03
100 Years Hence
A century from now. Civilisations reshaped by space expansion, technologies we can barely imagine, and the human questions that never change — love, power, survival, identity.
Primary
04
Alien Invasion
Earth under threat. First strikes, last stands, and the impossible choices when humanity faces something it never prepared for. Action, dread, and the will to survive.
Also considered
DOC
Space Documentary
Non-fiction films exploring real space science, missions, or the human pursuit of the cosmos. Accepted alongside narrative films — the bar is storytelling, not format.
Also considered
ANIM
Animation
2D, 3D, stop-motion, mixed media — all styles welcome. Live-action narrative receives first consideration, but exceptional animation will not be overlooked.
Grand Jury Prize
The single best film across all categories. The winner receives $5,000 cash — use it towards your flight and accommodation to the Vancouver Gala — plus the full SCA Studios post-production package, an original music score, a direct pitch to our streaming network partners, and the chance to work directly with the SCA Studios creative team.

Our Mission — SCA Studios
BRINGING
CULTURE &
ENTERTAINMENT
TO SPACE
Where storytelling meets the final frontier

Space is no longer just the domain of scientists and engineers. It belongs to artists, storytellers, and dreamers too. SCA Studios exists at the intersection of the space industry and creative culture — the place where the people who know the real space world tell the stories that will inspire the next generation of people who build it.

We believe that culture drives aspiration, and aspiration drives careers. The films that make space feel real, human, and possible are the same films that recruit the engineers, astronauts, and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Entertainment is not separate from the space industry — it is one of its most powerful engines.

"The stories we tell about space today are the careers we create tomorrow. SCA Studios is building the bridge between the imagination of filmmakers and the ambition of the space industry."

THE PIPELINE
STREAMING NEEDS

Space content is one of the fastest-growing genres on major streaming platforms. Audiences proven by titles like Apollo 13: Survival, Return to Space, and Countdown: Inspiration4 — but the discovery pipeline for the next generation of space storytellers doesn't exist yet.

SCA Studios is building it. Our competition surfaces compelling new voices — filmmakers with real space industry access, technical credibility, and human stories no other studio can source.

If you represent a streaming platform or production company and want early access to our finalist films, we want to hear from you.
